Phu Quoc international passenger seaport was started in 2015 and is expected to be completed in 2021 on an area of 179.3 hectares, in Duong Dong town. Many items were built including: the main dock at 240m long and 35m wide for two ships to dock on both sides of the bridge at the same time. A breakwater of 850m long is being built to facilitate the arrival of ships to pick up and drop off passengers.
A 1,004m-long dock with stairs is being built to get on and off the cruises, the construction of the station has a land area of 4.78 ha (in which the station area and ancillary works are 1,950m2). By design, the port is capable of receiving international passenger ships with a capacity of 5,000-6,000 passengers. In addition, the port can also combine to receive cargo ships or ships for security and defense purposes. The project has a total investment capital of 1,645 billion VND, built in the form of BOT (build – operate – transfer).
Previously, evaluating the investment in the construction of Phu Quoc international passenger port, the Vietnam Maritime Administration said that Phu Quoc has many alluring attractions, located on an active tourist route of 19 shipping lines by sea. Singapore – Thailand – Vietnam – Northeast Asian countries have 34 ships offering 113 tours around the region.
